Palm OS Contract Programming and
Consulting
All development is in-house, by the team of Neil Rhodes and Julie McKeehan.
They are the authors of
Palm OS Programming, the Developer's Guide (2nd edition).
In addition, they have developed the following
courses for Palm, Inc.:
- Palm OS Programming Essentials
- Palm OS Communications Essentials
- Creating Palm OS Conduits, C/C++ on Windows
Their contract programming projects for the Palm OS include:
- Port of Java SyncSuite to Mac OS, allowing Java conduits written for Windows to run on Mac OS
(2001, Handmark Software).
- Creation of Mac OS and Windows installers for handheld applications, databases, and
conduits (2000, Handmark Software).
- Created database packer/unpacker, to pack a database on the desktop with thousands of records into a
database with many fewer records for quicker synchronization. Unpacker on the handheld recreates the original database
(2000, Handmark Software).
- Onsite development of postal delivery worker
application and conduit. Designed, developed, and put into production in two
weeks to meet critical customer deadline (1999, Symbol Technologies). A later
update to this application added infrared printing to the Tec printer,
requiring low-level IR support (non-IrDA).
- Designed architecture and implemented software for
handheld to be used by warehouse workers, route drivers, and managers.
Solution includes TCP/IP synchronization/messaging to backend server (1998-1999,
Streamware Corporation).
- Port of Learner Profile software from Newton to Palm
OS. Includes serial communication to existing desktop application, using MNP
error correction (1998-1999, Sunburst Technologies).
Neil is a regular speaker at PalmSource.
Fixed fee contracts are preferred (although by-the-hour work is available).
